Cloudveil opened in Jackson, Wyoming in 1997, a small firm focused almost singularly on bringing to the US outdoor market a technology gaining huge ground in Europe at the time: stretch-woven softshells. Cloudveil’s first eight jackets – highly breathable, versatile, and weather-resistant – took the 1997 industry show by storm, and more or less introduced a new category of garment to the American market. The company was off and running, though soon others gave chase. In the years that followed, Cloudveil expanded its line, offering hardshells, pants, shirts, gloves, and insulation. Just recently, in 2006, Cloudveil launched its fly fishing apparel line, which has been received enthusiastically across the board. The enormous esteem the brand carries is evident in its relation with WL Gore. Like Simms Fishing Products, the other wader line we carry, Cloudveil is one of only three companies in the world licensed to build waders from GoreTex.
