Our Most Powerful and Versatile Steelhead Rod
Swinging for steelhead is a pretty bold thing to do, but with odds this long, it’s downright rash to skimp on equipment. Hooks, leaders and rigging must be of the highest quality, and rods are no exception. As a powerful seven weight, the Red Truck Premium 7136-4 is designed to be the ultimate steelhead two-hander, capable of delivering all manner of lines, tips and flies, on any river and at any time of year.
Top-Shelf Hardware
To command the full length of the Premium 7136-4, we’ve provided casters an updated two-handed grip built of AAAA cork, replete with a laser-etched EVA foam fighting butt that will help you handle a wild steelhead. For solid connection to a spey reel, the 7136-4 features a double-uplocking reel seat of machined aluminum, gold-anodized, and a lightweight woven carbon fiber spacer. You’ll find a matching anodize on our seamless winding check, which is also machined from bar stock aluminum.
Premium Blankside Components
To make this the lightest 13’6” seven weight ever developed, we’ve used REC recoil titanium snake guides and American Tackle stripping guide frames. The strippers feature Nanolite hoops, which are an advanced low-friction ceramic that’s unscratchable. All guides are secured to the blank with burgundy thread wraps and accented by gold tinsel, an aesthetic pairing that also comprises our 30” measuring wrap. The 7136’s tip-top is hard-chrome plated stainless steel wire.
Refined Ferrules for Smooth Action
With a truly progressive action, the Red Truck Premium 7136-4 can create high line speed with a 450 Scandinavian shooting head, but also has a powerful butt section for hefting a 540 Skagit and fifteen feet of T-14. Critical to the rod’s action is the advanced design of our ferrules, which afford convenient four-piece portability while also maintaining the blank’s natural liveliness. What’s more, the tight tolerances of our manufacturing allow us to guarantee the fit of supplementary rod sections, such as you might carry in the Spare Tire of our rod sock.
Gold-Capped Carbon Fiber Rod Tube
Built to safely transport the Premium 7136-4 between the greatest steelhead rivers in the world, this woven carbon fiber rod tube is lightweight and tough as nails. With machined aluminum end caps, which we’ve given a gold anodize to match the rod’s hardware, you get optimal functionality and the durability to protect your investment. Inside, the 7136-4 is wrapped in our all-cotton rod sock, which comes standard with a fifth slot for an extra tip section. Hidden in the end cap, we’ve added utility with our proprietary Brews-Key, a tribute of sorts to the fly fishing lifestyle.

Leland on the Red Truck Premium Series
The Red Truck Premium Series represents our taking aim at the absolute
best fly rods on the market, and working to surpass them. These are
performance rods for discerning anglers who seek out the best in every
industry.
In a line-up that mirrors our Diesel Series, the Premium Collection
features a five weight and an eight weight, both nine feet in length,
and three seven weights at 10’, 11’, and 13’6” in length. All
four-piece rods, they offer the same brilliant fishability as the
Diesel Series, but feature faster, lighter blanks and finer
appointments.
Red Truck Premium rods cast exceptionally well because they have a
modern, truly progressive action. This means they steadily load more
deeply toward the butt of the rod, depending on how much line you are
carrying with your cast. Unlike many rods, which may have a sweet spot
with say, twenty five or fifty five feet of fly line out the tip, Red
Truck Premium Rods load equally well on casts of any length. The
upshot? With a modern, compact casting stroke, you can stably load the
rod and form loops on every cast you’ll make in a day of fishing.
To make the Red Truck Premium Series, we went through rounds and rounds
of blanks before arriving at the ones that respond as we want. It’s
easy to make a blank ultra-fast, but have it cast poorly. By the same
token, a rod can be made lighter and lighter, but many times, the
action and stability are compromised in the process.
Balancing durability and performance, each finished rod weighs exactly
what we feel it should. As it happens, they are some of the lightest
fly rods ever made. Recognizing the caliber of these high-modulus
blanks, we’ve elected to go the distance and fit them with the absolute
finest components available: REC recoil titanium ‘memory metal’ snake
guides and American Tackle titanium stripping guides are practically
indestructible and contribute to each rod’s featherlike swing weight
and crisp action. The Nanolite hoops on the stripping guides are an
advanced unscratchable ceramic – built to withstand searing gelspun
payouts – that has an extremely low coefficient of friction, enabling
the longest line shoots.
Premium handles are all made from AAAA cork rings, with each model
featuring an updated grip that we’ve designed to accommodate optimal
hand placement. All hardware is gold-anodized, machined aluminum: the
double-uplocking recessed reel seat, as well as the seamless winding
check – one of the finer details frequently forgotten in today’s fly
rod industry. Rounding out every rod’s grip is a woven carbon fiber
spacer, lightweight and rigid, that provides stable anchorage for a
reel foot. Each rod also features a measuring wrap appropriate to the
species that it has been designed to pursue. In the larger line
weights, you’ll notice a heavy-duty EVA foam butt cap which has been
laser etched with our logo.
We’ve spent substantial effort dialing in the ferrule technology
featured in the Red Truck Premium Series. Our engineered junctions
provide four-piece portability with unprecedented power and
responsiveness, and they allow us to guarantee the fit of supplementary
or replacement rod sections.
Red Truck Premium fly rods are housed in elegant rod tubes built of the
same carbon fiber as our reel seat inserts, and capped by the same
gold-anodized aluminum as you’ll find in each rod’s hardware. Our
all-cotton rod socks contain not four, but five, section sleeves,
enabling you to convey a spare tip to remote locales – in case the
unexpected happens to the most delicate rod section, you’re still
fishing. As with our Diesel Series, Premium rods pack a surprise in the
rod tube: our patented Brews-Key bottle opener is always close at hand,
for those times when you need to celebrate a day on the water.
Simply put, Premium rods are built to be the best. We’ve taken truly
miraculous blanks and given them the finest appointments you can find.
If you’re looking for a series of rods that combines rigorous design
and thoughtful aesthetics to give you towering casting performance and
unrivaled fishability, this is it: The Premium Series from Red Truck.
the red truck fly rod company warranty
It’s simple:
-
If your Red Truck fly rod breaks due to manufacturer defect, of course
we will replace the broken section or make appropriate replacement for
the usable lifetime of your rod
- If you break
your Red Truck fly rod due to normal fishing, we ask that you pay the
reasonable replacement price, comparable to the shipping and handling
fees most manufacturers charge, for the section/s of the rod you (or
your car door, or your four-legged friend) broke.
In other words…
Most fly rod brands build in an extra “insurance” cost on every fly rod
they manufacture, knowing that this will cover the cost of the few who
abuse their fly rods. For those who take care of their angling
equipment, it’s pure profit for “The Man.”
But what about you? You take great care of your fly rods and might
never need a breakage warranty “built-in” to the retail cost of the rod.
At Red Truck, we know that fly rods break, but we believe that you should only pay for what you use.
If
your Red Truck fly rod breaks at any point during its usable fly
fishing life due to a manufacturing defect, don’t worry, we’ve got you
covered.
On the other hand: if, in the
normal course of fishing, you break a Red Truck fly rod, for a nominal
fee, we will replace the broken section at no profit and get you back
on the water fast!
So, if you slammed the tip of your Diesel Spey rod in the bed of your
buddy’s pickup, or your fuzzy Golden Retriever thought the grip on your
Premium rod looked more like a juicy toy than your favorite fishing
tool, we ask that you help us keep our rod prices low by paying for the
new section.
Give us a call toll free at 866-672-1959 to tell us your story and get
a Warranty Return Authorization, or you can order a tip section at any
time of time -- even ahead of time -- online at your rod's product page.
Either way, we’re in business to take care of you and your time on the water.
Why offer the Red Truck Lifetime Warranty?
We believe that our approach to fly rod warranty is a breath of fresh
air in an industry filled with confusing and dubious rod warranties.
Let’s
put it another way: If a big brand charges $150 extra at retail to
cover what they believe is inevitable rod breakage and you never break
your fly rod, you're just subsidizing others' klutziness. Now, multiply
this “premium” cost for every quality fly rod you have in your closet
and you’ll see a fair amount of money that could be used for fishing or
other angling-related goods.
What is Red Truck?
With all the fly fishing tackle available today, why would Red
Truck Fly Fishing Company bring to market our own offering of fly
fishing gear? Our honest answer is: with over 25 years of face-to-face retail experience with you, our customer, we've learned a few important things...
You
told us that you were confused with the "over the top" marketing hype
manufactured by our industry's big brands. You were baffled by
proprietary names for graphite modulus and confused by overly
complicated reel drag systems. You told us there were too many
bewildering choices and that you wanted concise answers and
recommendations to your questions and fishing needs. When purchasing
fly gear, you wanted to feel confident that you were making a smart
investment in a product that would not be replaced next year with a
"newer" version. In essence, you wanted stuff
that works and was worth your hard-earned money!
At
Red Truck, we've listened to you and leveraged our staff's combined 300
plus years of collective fly fishing experience to design equipment that is strictly necessary
and that raises your level of enjoyment from purchase to use. We tested
gear with hard-working, no-nonsense, professional guides who rely on their tackle in the same way as a carpenter does his hammer. With each project, we always asked ourselves, "Does this product deserve to exist?"
Our Red Truck Fly Rods embody this honest thinking.
Unlike some fly rod brands that employ a myopic marketing campaign,
stating that their rod is the lightest or the fastest, at Red Truck, we
focus on the big picture. We believe in the essential characteristics
of a truly good rod: balance, minimal swing weight, true-tracking,
stability and efficiency. The result of this balanced design approach
is a selection of fly rods that are a joy to cast and fish.
At Red Truck, fly fishing is our passion.
We believe that fly fishing should be fun and that your fly tackle
should always work as intended. We like fishing memories of friends,
dusty handshakes, wet dogs, great casts, beautiful places and even a
fish or two. We design gear that takes you into the outdoors and gets the job done in the field, every time.
