Leland on Scott Fly Rods

Founded in 1973, by Harry Wilson, Scott quickly became known for their fine fiberglass fly rods. However, very soon, they began to experiment with graphite. Within a few years Scott developed, their signature, tapered hollow internal ferrule. In the late 1970's Scott's pioneering graphite rod, designed specifically for salmon and steelhead, was introduced. Further, they initiated one of the first true quality control rating systems for rod blanks. The result was greater consistency in rods throughout the production process.

Scott is a company whose history is filled with firsts. They were the first rod maker to introduce a five-piece fiberglass rod. They began to experiment with graphite as early as any rod maker. Scott was the first rod company to successfully develop and sell multi-piece graphite rods; and the list goes on and on. This foresight has lead to a number of developments in production and design that has made them one of today's industry leaders. The first Scott series to feature four piece rods in 2-12 weight sizes is the S3 series.

The S3 represents the best tip flex rod Scott has ever made. Given the overwhelming success of the S3 the team at Scott added a saltwater series to the line. Having gathered input from dealers and pros alike, this series will no doubt find itself battling some of the world’s ultimate game fish. The S3S rods load as quickly as any rod out there. They are deadly accurate which is good for the angler and bad for the bonefish. This series features the patented Scott ARC reinforcement; this addition helps the angler land those trophy fish you see in all the magazines.

Scott on the Scott T2H Fly Rod Series

Our new series of Technical 2-Handers offer enthusiasts high performance rods to tackle any double handed fishing situation. Whether you’re targeting trout with ultra-light rods or working a salmon run with 1200 grains for the big boys there’s a T2H rod to help you do the job better. The rods are very light with responsive tips, progressive actions and plenty of power and support in the butt sections. They help eliminate torque from directional changes, and cast very smooth flat lines.
The 2 hand assist rods cover situations where casting and fishing a single handed rod are enhanced by the ability to use a second hand assist in casting, and controlling drifts.

You never get used to how cold it actually feels on the river this time of year. But, who cares? You know there are fresh chromers stacked up in the run, and there’ll always be time to thaw out when daylight fades.

The lie is hard to reach, and the drift is complex. That’s good because that’s where the big fish feel comfortable.

A long snake roll sets the anchor and you launch one. The loop is tight, and the fly turns over perfectly, right into the seam.

As you swim the fly through the drift, the line comes tight. In an instant there’s a deep silver fish cartwheeling down the river. Your rod absorbs the shock, and you know it’s a great day to be on the river.

T2H rods are matched perfectly to today’s line types and casting styles. Very easy and smooth, dial in your game with a T2H.

Scott on Scott Fly Rods

"The Ultimate Fishing Tool - When you fish a Scott fly rod, you are fishing the best technology. That's our promise. We know it's our job to continuously find and apply the latest innovations. It's what we do every day.

Sometimes, we're asked if our graphite is 'better' than other company's. Our response is 'yeah, but that's only part of it'. We do use the most advanced fibers, but the resin system that binds them, the tapers and the patterns the materials are rolled onto, and the connection system that joins the blank all contribute to performance.

We work closely with the engineers and chemists that create high performance materials to push new developments and provide them with feedback. If they're really good and deliver an innovation, we take them fishing. Then we get busy and incorporate that new technology into our designs.

That way, you end up with a better fishing tool, and even sometimes a new way to approach your fishing. You buy a Scott Rod expecting as much, and we build each Scott Rod delivered on that promise.

Like we said, it's our job."

THE SCOTT DIFFERENCE:

At our company there's a reason for doing what we do. We call it the Scott Difference. We see it every day at work, preach it to anyone within earshot and feel it in our fly rods every time we fish.

This mantra, which we call the Scott Difference, is embedded throughout our workshop and crammed underneath our fingernails at the end of each day. We perform this act of faith and worship towards detail because we know it eventually makes its way upstream to our dealers, and ultimately to you.

And even though you'll hear us talk about the Scott Difference we actually can't take all the credit. It's a way of doing things that began with Harry Wilson when he started Scott back in 1974, and has been evolving in the hands of anyone who has made, sold, or fished Scott rods ever since. We see it as a 28 year old heritage-in-process that doesn't sit around the workbench talking about how good the fishing used to be. And when it's all said and done, we are rod makers and our goal is simple: To handcraft the ultimate fishing tool.

If our customers and friends can't see and feel what they're paying for then we don't charge for it. The Scott Difference is tangible, and we can point to it in every rod. The long list starts with hand fit internal ferrules, individual flex rating, custom graphite, and hand turned Portuguese cork grips, then keeps on going. Like we said, it's all about a way of doing things, and it's all about how good the fishing's going to be.

Now get out there.
