salt water fly fishing School, step one
This Sequence Teaches Anglers How to Fly Fish Successfully in Salt Water
In no other arena of fly fishing are the
stakes as high as they are in salt water. Oftentimes in the salt you'll have only your thoughts to hold your interest, until
the fish suddenly show. How you perform in that moment, when your heart pounds and adrenaline surges, will make the
difference between success and failure.
If you're interested in
taking the skills you've built in freshwater and
adapting them to the salt, there's no better place to start than our
Saltwater Fly Fishing School. Our Saltwater course covers the essential skills of fly fishing in the salt, including casting for
distance and
casting in strong wind, taking shots at
fast moving fish, strip-setting,
down-and-dirty fish fighting, and mastering the
basic knots. You'll also be introduced to some of the more elaborate saltwater fly fishing knots like the
Bimini Twist and the Slim Beauty.

saltwater Fly Fishing school, Step two
Take a Half-Day Guided Trip with Leland's Jim Andras
Distinguished fly fishing guide and instructor Jim Andras will be
leading
Step One Saltwater graduates on half-day striped bass fishing excursions
throughout the summer of 2011. These half-day outings allow saltwater fly
fishing students to
apply what they've learned at the Sonoma Ranch to
an
in-field fishing day with Jim, the ultimate companion for a
beautiful summer day in wine country.
Leland's Jim Andras
Having guided in
Russia, Mongolia, Alaska and Chile, Jim Andras now plies the waters of
northern California and southern Oregon. Dry in humor and humble in demeanor, Jim commands a
loyal following of repeat clients year after year, but is always looking to share his love of fly fishing with new folks. Jim is
kind, gentle, and pretension-free, and his trips in the northern Bay Area represent the
ideal next step after one of our intro classes at the Ranch.
