Leland on Rio Sinking Fly Line Material
Tungsten sinking lines were developed to get around the disadvantages of lead core: notably, kinking, memory, and environmental jeopardy.
Available in bulk T-8, T-11, T-14 and T-17, these lines have 8, 11, 14, and 17 grains per foot, respectively.
In a bathtub, these sinking fly lines have different rates of descent.
T-8 sinks at 6-7 inches per second, T-11 at 8-9ips, T-14 at 11ips, and T-17 at 13ips. Sink rates in the field will vary with current, salinity, etc.
Order in bulk if you want to make sinktips for steelheading or sinking shooting heads for the salt.

RIO developed these heads as a tungsten alternative to lead core. They are supple, do not kink and sink like a stone. T-8 ( sinks at 7 inches per second) and T-11 (8 inches per second) are designed for lighter weight rods and weigh 8 grains and 11 grains per foot respectively. T-14, weighing 14 grains per foot and sinks at 9 inches per second, is best for single-hand rods from 8 through 12 weight, and tips for double-hand rods. T-14 works especially well with Skagit lines. The NEW T-17 is the heaviest and fastest sinking material of them all and makes light work of getting depth and casting big flies. Cut these heads to the desired length and weight to meet existing fishing conditions.

RIO on RIO Fly Lines
For more than 20 years, RIO has demonstrated passion, innovation and a
pure love for the fly fishing sport through its development of the
industry's highest performance fly lines. And the great news is, we at
RIO will continue to research, design and refine our fly fishing
products to ensure RIO fly lines are your preferred choice for years to
come.
In 1990, Jim and Kitty Vincent founded RIO in the mountains of Idaho on
the idea that exceptional fly fishing products should be built by
anglers for anglers. More than twenty years later, we're still fly
fishing in Idaho and driven by that same ethos. At RIO, we take great
pride in the promise to give you the absolute best of fly fishing on
your rod.
