Leland on Simms Layering:
You knew something had to give. One doesn’t spend more
than 15 years designing a lineup of some of most breathable waders and
outerwear, only to have the breathability compromised by substandard
layering pieces. KC Walsh and his design team have poured their efforts
into the design and manufacturing of powerful wicking, quick drying
layering products. The first and foremost important factor in good
layering garment is it’s wicking or breath ability, not just the
movement of moisture off your body but the transport moisture from one
product to the next. Without this wicking quality, moisture is going to
stay against you skin or even worse stay in the garment keeping you wet
and cold. Who knows wicking/breathability better than Simms Fishing
Products?
The next determining factor to a great layering
piece is the garment’s drying ability. The quicker and easier a garment
dries, the more moisture the garment can move, again movement is good
as it keeps you dry. Wicking only works if the garment can dry fast. By
utilizing Polartec® Power Dry®, Polartec® Thermal Pro®, Polartec®
Classic and VisaEndurance® technologies the designers at Simms provide
you the best layering pieces to be worn with any breathable wader or
outerwear.
If a garment isn’t comfortable it probably will be
left behind, what good does that do you, none! As with all Simms
products, these layering pieces were field-tested until the fit and
feel was just right. Based on the way Simms fits waders, you just have
to know the fit and comfort of their layering is going to be second to
none.
Moisture is no friend of mine: That should be every
angler’s creed when it comes to keep warm. Simms products are cut from
materials that are rated tops in their class when it comes to wicking,
quick drying and durable. Through the use of Polartec® Power Dry®,
Polartec® Thermal Pro®, Polartec® Classic and VisaEndurance®
technologies Simms provides you layering pieces that are fast wicking,
quick to dry and even resist odors. To give the comfort in movement
Simms layering garments are constructed with either 2 or 4 way stretch
materials. And to ensure proper fit Simms layering garments come in
sizes from Small to XX Large. Simms designs and manufactures some of
the most functional and comfortable fly fishing layering garments on
the market. And as with their patented Guide Series Waders these
layering garments are guide-proof. Remember your waders and outerwear
are only as good as what you wear under them.
- Cut from technical fabrics of Polartec® Power Dry®, Polartec® Thermal Pro®, Polartec® Classic or VisaEndurance®

Funny how childhood memories can influence one's
life! Just ask K.C. Walsh of Simms Fishing Products what the underlying
theme to his company and its location, he'll tell you it was his
grandfather taking him fly fishing in Bozeman, MT. Funny how what
started as a desire by K.C. to work in the fly fishing industry turned
into the design of the world's best fishing wader. Funny how that wader
design has turned into a company that now manufacturers what is
considered by many the best fishing waders and technical clothing.
Funny? Not really. Just hard work: Welcome to Simms Fishing Products!
At
Leland Fly Fishing Outfitters, we carry and use only the best fly
fishing gear. There is not enough time in our hurried world to worry
whether our chest waders or rain jackets are going to leak. We talk
with K.C. quite frequently and love to listen to his passion for
development of the most useful and high quality fly fishing apparel.
Our shop employees have toured the Simms factory, attended product
seminars and can tell you, K.C. is doing it right.

Simms on Layering
"We all know fishing brings variable weather conditions.
Through some basic layering principles, we can help anglers stay
comfortable on the water at all times. In 2008, we’ve simplified our
offering … [while] maintaining a technical edge.”
"Depending on
the weather. Underwear and fleece can be just as important as waders
and outerwear and will improve the performance of breathable products.
Working with technologically advanced fabrics, we've developed a range
of layering products that are ideally suited for fishing, offering
excellent warmth and wicking properties."
“LEAVE THE GOOSEBUMPS TO THE GEESE.”
Simms Layering Systems
“Systems and variables are part of fishing. Just as you rod/reel set-up
is a system depending on the conditions, so too is layering. Proper
layering involves combining the right top and bottom in a way that
allows you to adapt to changing weather conditions so you’re
comfortable no matter what. If your “layering system” consists of a
pair of cotton long johns under your jeans and cotton sweatshirt over
your t-shirt, erratic weather conditions could easily send you home
early. We offer a wide range of layering products to make sure you’re
prepared for anything. Simms layering systems are moisture wicking,
quick drying, plus odor-resistant, keeping you dry when you sweat and
warm without excess bulk. Most importantly, they are designed
specifically for fishing with plenty of stretch and innovative design
elements, such as the water-resistant polypropylene cuffs on our
RiverTek Midweight Top.”
Simms on Technical Fabrics
“Simms layering products utilize a range of technical fabrics.
Our baselayers utilize fabrics that wick moisture and dry quickly,
while our insulation layers leverage fabrics that offer superior warmth
and breathability.
Polartec® Power Dry® Technology:
Polartec®
Power Dry® fabrics are designed to keep your skin dry when you sweat.
They feature a bi-component knit construction that uses different yarns
on either side of the fabric. This creates two different surfaces: one
that is optimized to move moisture away from the skin, the other to dry
quickly. Polartec® Power Dry® fabrics are 100% polyester, highly
breathable and ideal as a baselayer. Featured in our RiverTek™”

"Why do professional guides choose Simms?
Because we take pride in what we make, and products have been designed
to go the distance. Our in-house design team has a combined 50 years of
experience in making durable technical outerwear. We work closely with
top material suppliers from around the globe, and continually test both
our new and old products in the lab and out in the field to make sure
we meet or exceed your expectations.
Nothing pleases us more
than to see our products, like those on the guides featured in out
catalog and on our website, go the distance.”
“The thrill of
discovering a pristine stream after a long hike into the backcountry,
the exhilarations of being on the flats on one of those incredibly
clear days, the rush of a crisp morning on a British Columbia river
when the steelies are running, these are the memories that keep us
tying through the dark winter months, and always find us plotting our
next angling season or weekend.
At Simms, we never forget that
the goal of every committed angler is to stay on the water as long and
has often as possible-regardless of the weather. That’s why we never
stop looking for new ways to keep you dry and comfortable. Whether
you’re waist deep in a drizzling snow on the Missouri or scouting the
Keys in the sweltering heat of a June afternoon.
For 2007,
we’re delighted to present the new zippered G4 Guide wader, the most
technical wader we’ve ever created. We’re also proud to introduce the
two most competitive waders under two hundred dollars, the first
GORE-TEX wader for kids and a full arsenal of new clothing.
So for all those who will be out there earlier, longer and later, we’ve got just one thing to say: Your Gear is Ready”
“Simms. The Choice of Professional Guides Worldwide”.

Polartec on Polartec® Power Dry®
Polartec® Power Dry® fabrics are designed to keep your
skin dry when you sweat. All fabrics in this series feature a patented
bi-component knit construction that uses different yarns on either side
of the fabric. This creates two different surfaces: one that is
optimized to move moisture away from the skin, the other to dry
quickly.
How Does It Work?
Moisture and
high relative humidity next to the skin cause discomfort. Polartec®
Power Dry® keeps the skin dry through three complementary mechanisms:
- The fabric is highly breathable and does not restrict the movement of moisture vapor.
- “Touch
points” on the fabric inner surface draw off the sweat. Sweat is wicked
off the skin to the outside of the fabric where it spreads rapidly for
evaporation. Polartec® Power Dry® fabrics move at least 30% more
moisture away from the skin than single component fabrics.
- When
the sweat reaches the outside of the fabric, it spreads out to many
times its original surface area, enabling it to dry at least 2 times
faster than cotton.
Technical Highlights
- Patented bi-component construction keeps your skin dry when you sweat
- Highly breathable to provide comfort in all activities; does not restrict the movement of moisture vapor
- Dries quickly
- Provides very good sun protection (UPF 15) in most styles
- Soft surface next to skin provides all-day comfort
- Machine washable
