When Robert Bolt, owner of R.K. Bolt Rod Co., first acquired the shop of revered bamboo rod maker Gary Howell's workshop, he was already an accomplished bamboo craftsman with ten years of experience. By studying Howell's journals, records, and meticulous scientific methods, Bolt has been able to refine his technique to achieve a remarkable level of control over the multitude of variables that affect bamboo fly rod tapers. Bolt has also benefited from the counsel of Howell's former student, Glen Beckett, formerly of Winston fly rods, whose in-depth knowledge of the history, materials and personalities of bamboo rod making stretches back to the Depression Era. Each of RK Bolt's rods reflects a deep respect for the process of bamboo rod making and the rich history that it represents.
