ABEL Fly REELS
When Steve Abel started machining fly reels in 1987 at his workshop in Camarillo, California, the fly reel industry came into its modern era. Abel, with his background as an aerospace machinist and a saltwater fly fisherman, had come to feel that the market’s current offerings were not up to task. Unabashedly, he set out to build “the ultimate fly reel.” Today, Abels have become known for their ultimate reliability, their silky smooth, oversized cork drags, and their advanced porting. Every machinable part of an Abel reel – down to the stainless steel screws – originates in the Camarillo facility. Abel Reels carry huge clout with elite anglers around the world, and in 2006, they helped bring to gaff more IGFA world records than any other brand.
