TIBOR Fly fishing REELS

When it comes to high performance fly reels, Tibor is one of the undisputed champions of the world. Guided by the philosophy that sound engineering should utilize as few moving parts as possible, Tibor's founder, Ted Jurascik, has been making the industry's most elegant, bomb-proof and salt-and weather-proof reels since he came out with the legendary Billy Pate Fly Fishing Reel, the reel by which all others have come to be measured, in 1976.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Ted Jurascik fished one of Europe's greatest rivers, the Danube, as a boy. At only 17, he became the youngest Hungarian ever to earn a Masterpapers in the Tool and Die trade. Shortly after setting out on his career, he joined the Hungarian freedom fighters in their battle to overthrow the Soviet Union. They were unsuccessful in their attempted revolt, and Ted fled to the United States.
Starting out in New York working for several tool and die companies, Ted eventually opened his own business in 1961, around the same time he began fishing the Florida Keys, where he became intimately familiar with the incredible demands placed upon the inadequate fly fishing equipment of the time. His experiences in the Keys, along with his relationship with famed angler Billy Pate, inspired his first line of reels, the Billy Pate Anti-Reverse Series. These reels leveled the playing field with giant tarpon like none other in history, and for the first time made landing these fish possible on a consistent basis. Still manufactured, over 20 world records later, the Billy Pate reel design is so sound that it has not changed since 1976.
In 1995, Tibor introduced the Tibor Series reels, which incorporate the same impregnated cork drag that bested so many giant fish in the Billy Pate reels. Available in a whole slew of colors, and sized for everything from rainbows to marlin, Tibors have earned the revered status as perhaps the most dependable reels on the market. Four years after the original Tibor came the Tibor Light, a terrific line of freshwater reels that bring the same reliability and beautiful design into the domain of light trout fishing.
Today, all Tibor reels are manufactured at the Tibor machine shop in Delray Beach, Florida. Made with 100% corrosion-proof materials and hard anodized for a life-time of hard use, every Tibor reel is safe in the saltwater. The things that swim in saltwater, however, aren't quite so safe.
Once again, Tibor Reel Corporation has been awarded the International Game Fish
Association (IGFA) World Record Achievement Award for setting the most world records in the fly reel division in 2007.
