Leland on the Smith Super Method Sunglass

The Super Method has got the right look, maybe that's why it's so popular. Super light polycarbonate lenses, super light Grilamid frame, yet high on performance and strength make this sunglass perfect for all outdoor sports, including, of course, fly fishing. Soothing Copper lenses have large coverage area in the Super Method for a wide field of view when things start happening fast. As the light gets brighter, these Polarchromic lenses get darker, so you stay comfortable with just the right amount of filtration level for the situation at hand. The Carbonic Lens has the greatest impact resistance of any lens material on the planet, so you stay safer when skiing, boarding, or biking. And, a Lifetime Warranty to top it off. The Bahamas, or Mount Tamalpais will both look good through the Super Method.

High impact, molded polycarbonate lenses from the world leader in outdoor eyewear, Smith, makes the Carbonic Super Method one tough, but lighweight Sunglass. Now, you'll be able to see clearly outdoors under the most demanding conditions while providing ultimate protection for your eyes. The Brown Grilamid frame is cool and almost as tough as the lenses!

Leland on Smith/Action Optics Sunglasses

After years of frustration from using heavy glass and cheap plastic polarized glasses, Napa based Ophthalmologist Robert Nassar decided he could build a better mousetrap. He knew there had to be a better way to design and develop sunglasses for his sport of fly fishing. With the first production of Action Optic glasses, the fishing community finally had sunglasses that not only fit, but were also highly functional. Today, over 20 years later, Smith Optics, now owner of Action Optics, is the front-runner in research and development in sunglasses.

Based in Ketchum, ID, Smith/Action Optics has answered to only the toughest of critics; themselves. They’ve followed in the tradition of Dr. Nassar, striving to better themselves and their glasses for the betterment of the angler. When you live and work in trout heaven, you better know how to make good glasses. Their pursuit of excellence doesn't stop at the trout streams of Idaho, but takes them to the flats of Christmas Island, the Florida Keys, and the mountains of Chile to continue to build the best all-around fishing glasses in the world.

Smith on their Super Method Carbonic Sunglass

The Benefits of Tapered Lens Technology
When something hits something else, it bounces. Rocks skip, balls bounce, and light waves are no exception. When light passes through a medium, it refracts i.e. changes course. This refraction can cause visual distortion. TLT Optics straightens things out so that you see with 100% accuracy. Smith's TLT Optics corrects the distortion inherent in standard 8 and 9 base lens curves by progressively tapering the lens towards the outer edge. It results in light waves being delivered straight to the eye without distorting. This gives you better vision and less eye fatigue.

Smith sunglasses meet ANSI Z80.3 standards for Non-prescription Sunglass and Fashion Eyewear Requirements and meets European Community (CE) Class 1 Optical Standards.

Glare happens. Not just on glass and water, but also on pavement, sand, or just about any other flat-ish surface. It overloads your retinas with too much information, and, after a while, it just wears you out. Polarized lenses filter out the visual 'noise' so you can focus on the facts. We've created the world's lightest distortion-free polarized lens so you have perfect vision and protection. 100% UVA/B/C protection is layered in under the world's best anti-scratch protection. Clear vision and maximum durability create the best balance of science and real world requirements.

Smith's polarized lenses utilize energized iodine crystals that are positioned in vertical rows on a thin piece of film. This film is either sandwiched between two layers of lens material or injection-molded to create a molecular bond. The filter within the lens allows selected light rays to reach the eye while absorbing reflected glare or polarized light. When a polarizing film or filter is properly positioned in front of reflected light rays, the glare is blocked.

Smith's polarized lenses are constructed of a sheet of polyvinyl alcohol film (PVA) sandwiched between two pieces of lens material. The PVA film molecule alignment is such that it allows only vertical light waves to pass through the lens (somewhat like a Venetian blind), thus eliminating glare. Cheap polarized lenses do not use PVA material and can cause distortion in your vision, which may eventually lead to headaches.

Protection from the Sun
Linked to eye diseases, cataracts, and temporary conditions such as "snowblindness," Ultraviolet Radiation (UVA/B/C) is magnified by snow-covered surfaces. All Smith lens tints protect your eyes from 100% of these harmful forms of solar radiation.

Visible Light Transmission (VLT)
The percentage of available light allowed to reach the eye. Different tints offer specific VLT to enhance vision in various light conditions.

8 Base Lens Curvature
Combining just enough head curve and optical centration to protect you from the elements, the 8 Base’s mellowed wrap angle keeps you looking stylish.

Smith Optics on their Company Profile

Based in Sun Valley, Idaho, Smith Optics, Inc. was founded in 1965 with the creation of the first-ever goggle featuring a sealed thermal lens and breathable vent foam. In the early years, founder Dr. Bob Smith, an orthodontist by trade, made goggles by hand using dental tools, foam and glue. Before he struck a deal for manufacturing of Smith goggles in the late 60's, Smith would often trade his creations for lift tickets. These early prototypes were usually manufactured by Smith and friends around the kitchen table.

Building on that goggle heritage and extending its expertise, Smith Sport Optics has gone on to set the standard for high performance eyewear and goggles. Innovations over the years include the Fog-X anti-fog coating, PMT Perforated Membrane Technology lens ventilation system, patented Turbo C.A.M. Constant Air Management system, patented Regulator adjustable lens ventilation system, patented Roll Off's film advance system for motocross, patented ODS (Ocular Docking System) prescription insert and patented Slider series sunglasses, the most innovative interchangeable lens sunglass available.

Today, Smith Optics has become synonymous with innovative, durable, top-quality products in the eyewear market. The corporate headquarters are in Ketchum, Idaho, but Smith Optics has hubs across the globe. The European headquarters are located in Florence, Italy; a promotions office is in Hossegor, France, near Biarritz; and San Clemente, Calif. is the center of Smith's Surf and Motorsports operations.

Smith products are sold worldwide and its devotion to excellence, innovation and style has made Smith goggles and sunglasses the choice of action-sport athletes worldwide. Smith products represent authentic sports gear, researched and tested by a dedicated group of employees and athletes that live and breathe the lifestyle.
